Privacy Policy

LearnThenPlay helps you make time for learning and other goals before distractions. This policy covers the Android app and the support services operated for LearnThenPlay. Contact support@learnthenplay.app with privacy questions.

The short version

• Focus Mode works without a LearnThenPlay account. Your goals, routines, selected apps, credited time, and Focus history stay on your device. They are not automatically uploaded to us.
• Family Mode uses a parent account for email verification, PIN recovery, and security notices. Optional device linking also uses cloud storage for selected Family rules and shared unlock status.
• We do not sell personal information or use it for advertising. The app has no ads and does not include an advertising or analytics SDK.
• Usage Access and Accessibility help count active goal-app time and apply your app restrictions. LearnThenPlay does not read screen text, typed content, messages, passwords, or the content you read or watch through these capabilities.

Your choices and information on your device

In Focus Mode, you choose goal apps, a shared time target, distractions, and any scheduled routines. Starting early, pausing, resuming, editing, skipping, and taking a vacation break are local actions. We store the settings and progress needed to resume and finish those goals.

Focus history includes goal names, dates, start and end times, target and credited durations, credited time per selected app, and the outcome, such as completed or skipped. App references use Android package names; names and icons are looked up on the device when displayed. This is a record of your Focus goals, not a general browsing history or a record of what you did inside another app.

In Family Mode, local information includes the parent's learning goals, shared or individual app targets, daily reset time, app rules, overrides and temporary locks, progress, and Home layout. If Guided Home is selected, we also store the chosen Home app to open after learning, if the parent enables that option. Focus Mode and Family Mode with normal Home keep the existing launcher.

We store a salted hash of the parent PIN, not the PIN itself. An optional offline recovery code is displayed once and stored as a salted hash after confirmation. These hashes are not uploaded. Other local settings can include a local-network override token, app-picker preferences, and launcher notification-badge state.

Usage Access and Accessibility

Usage Access supplies foreground-app and timing information. The Accessibility service uses foreground-app identifiers and interaction or content-change event signals. Together, these help determine whether a selected goal app is being actively used and whether a selected restriction should apply.

By default, credit can stop after a period without qualifying activity, when the screen locks, or when a goal app is no longer foreground. Some games and readers do not report interaction reliably. In Focus Mode, you can turn on "Count time while the goal app is open" for a routine or one-time session. That choice uses Android's foreground-app timing and screen state rather than interaction signals, so it also counts an app left open. Switching apps, locking the device, turning the screen off, or pausing the goal stops credit. The choice is stored locally with that goal. Neither counting method proves learning or understanding.

The Accessibility service does not retrieve window content or inspect text fields, messages, passwords, payment details, or contacts. Raw Accessibility event data is processed on the device and is not uploaded or shared. See the Accessibility disclosure for the service's behavior and consent process.

Parent accounts, recovery, and security notices

Family setup uses Firebase Authentication, operated by Google, for a parent's email/password account, email verification, and password reset. The password entered in the app is submitted securely to Firebase for authentication. LearnThenPlay does not retain it as a plaintext password.

Cloud records associate the parent's email and account identifier with an app-generated device identifier. These are not the device's IMEI or hardware serial number. Security records may include Parent settings access, repeated incorrect PIN attempts, a PIN change or reset, or a protection setting being disabled. They contain identifiers, event type, time, and limited protection details. Security emails show a shortened device identifier. They do not contain the PIN, recovery code, screen content, or detailed learning-time history.

These records and queued email delivery information are used for account recovery and security. Parent security notices use the verified email address.

Optional Family device linking

A parent can link Family devices using a separate anonymous Firebase identity for each installation. Linked cloud records contain device and room membership identifiers, selected learning-app package and display names, time targets, reset time, allowed and blocked app rules, and the current progress day and shared unlock or override state.

Linking shares completion status, not minute-by-minute learning progress. It does not upload the parent PIN, offline recovery code, Home layout, or Focus routines and history. Unlinking stops that device's future synchronization; it does not delete the other devices' data or the separate parent account.

Other permissions

• Default Home is requested for Family Guided Home. It lets LearnThenPlay present the supervised Home and, when configured, open the parent's chosen launcher after learning. Android controls the default-Home selection.
• Notifications let LearnThenPlay show reminders, goal completion, and a visible control notification while protection is active. This permission does not read other apps' notifications.
• Optional notification access is separate. Guided Home can use notification package names to show app badges. The app does not inspect or upload notification message text.
• Internet access supports parent authentication, recovery, security notices, and optional Family linking. Opening a website, an app-store link, or an email app uses that service's own connection and privacy practices.
• Launcher features may ask Android to add a widget, set wallpaper, or show an uninstall confirmation when you request that action.

Required access is explained in the app before Android settings open. You can decline or revoke it in Android settings. Restrictions and active-time counting may then stop working correctly.

Support reports, service providers, and purchases

The app keeps a limited local diagnostic log and the most recent crash report. Reports can include app and Android versions, device model, timestamps, errors, protection state, and relevant app package identifiers. They are not automatically sent to LearnThenPlay. Sharing a report opens Android's share flow so you choose whether and where to send it. If you email support, we receive your address, message, and anything you attach. Review reports before sharing and never send a PIN, password, or recovery code.

Firebase and Google services process account, security, linking, hosting, and technical connection data on our behalf. Email delivery also uses our email service provider. Connections to these online services are encrypted in transit; the providers may process technical information such as an IP address and service logs to operate and secure them. See Google's privacy policy. Google Play separately handles purchases and may provide crash or performance reports according to the user's Google and Android settings. We do not receive your payment-card details.

We do not sell information, share it for third-party marketing, or use it to target advertising.

Retention and deletion

Local settings remain until changed, app storage is cleared, or the app is uninstalled. Android app backup is disabled for LearnThenPlay. Family daily progress starts a new day at the parent-selected reset time. Focus history and diagnostic logs have size or entry limits; older records are removed as those limits are reached.

Use Focus > History > Clear history to clear recorded Focus days and streaks. This does not remove schedules or stop a running goal. Local crash and diagnostic reports can be cleared in About LearnThenPlay. Clearing app storage or uninstalling removes the installation's local data.

A verified parent can use Parent settings > Delete parent account to delete the Firebase parent account, protected-device registrations, security records, and queued security emails. These cloud records are otherwise retained for the account's recovery and security functions. Account deletion does not erase local Family rules, PIN, progress, or separately linked Family data, so it does not unexpectedly unlock a child's device.

For deletion without access to the device, deletion of linked Family cloud data, or questions about support correspondence, follow the account deletion instructions or email support@learnthenplay.app from the parent account address. Do not include credentials.

Children and parents' choices

A parent or guardian configures Family Mode and its limited processing of app-activity information to apply the parent's rules. We do not ask children to supply a name, date of birth, location, messages, or photos. There are no ads, social profiles, or public posting features in LearnThenPlay.

Parents can change rules behind the PIN, recover or change the PIN with the verified account, choose optional offline recovery or linking, revoke Android permissions, request cloud deletion, clear app storage, or uninstall. Focus users can edit or pause their own routines without creating a parent account.
